Artists Statement

My work is influenced by the medium of film, spoken word and expression through movement. It is informed by different performance practices and visual means to express a variety of themes. These include the things that feed our fears and hopes and their effects on our behaviour; the elements which define our identities and “rules” of empathy. I explore what motivates people’s actions, from the mundane to the extraordinary, using them as stimuli to investigate their origins and the impact they have on our lives. I move from the naïve and the fantastical to the visceral and the darkness of life’s harsh realities. While I am influenced by text-based theatre and physical-devised performance, I’m equally at home in live art and experimental performance. Although the two forms tend to draw different audiences, I instinctively cross these disciplines and continue to investigate this divide further.
